Southern Maine 15, Babson 9

At Babson Park, Mass., Southern Maine of Gorham pounded out 16 hits, including four homers en route to the win. Ryan Pike hit two homers and drove in four runs for the Huskies (32-5), while Mike Eaton had a grand slam and RBI single. Collin Henry of Penobscot drove in two runs with a homer, double and single while Chris Burleson added a double and two singles (RBI). Bryan Evans homered, doubled and singled to drive in four runs for Babson (21-17).

Colby 5, Bates 3

At Waterville, Brendan Gallagher knocked in two runs with a triple as Colby defeated Bates of Lewiston. John Lerner doubled and later singled in a run for the Mules (8-22), and Ryan Conlon doubled and singled. Alex Gallant hit an RBI double for Bates (12-20).

SOFTBALL

UMPI eliminated

At Charleston, W.Va., William Carey University of Mississippi defeated the University of Maine-Presque Isle 15-1 and 25-0 to eliminate the Owls from the NAIA Regional Qualifier for the national tournament. In the championship game, tournament MVP Brea Neidhardt hit a solo home run, a double and two singles for William Carey. Judy Barber homered, doubled and singled and Nikki Sanders hit a fifth inning grand slam. Erica Davis singled in the second inning for UMPI’s lone hit. In the first game, Jill Wedgeworth hit a two-run home run for William Carey (38-6). Neidhardt doubled and singled. Desiree Smith singled and scored on a passed ball for the Owls (17-11). Kathleen Higgins also singled.

USM knocked out of tournament

At Providence, R.I., University of Southern Maine were quickly knocked out of the Little East Conference tournament as Rhode Island College beat the Huskies 6-2 in the first game and Keene State took the second game 5-0. In the first game, Chelsi Panarelli homered to lead Rhode Island College (37-4). Donielle Mattoon drove in two runs. Jess Hayden doubled and knocked in both runs for Southern Maine (6-36). In the second game, Allie D’Amato tripled and singled with an RBI for Keene State (23-13). Katie Allenson had two RBIs and a double.

Machias 2, Woodland 1

At Machias, Ben Getchell hit an RBI single in the fourth inning to give Machias a 2-0 lead and the Bulldogs held on to beat Woodland. Jake Scoville singled for Machias (2-0). Matt Little recorded nine strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings and Ty Richards and Jacob Stevens scored. Ben Sears hit an RBI single in the seventh for the Dragons (1-2). Aaron St. Pierre sin-gled and scored and Jordan Perry singled.

Greenville 10, Forest Hills 6

At Greenville, Tony DiAngelo hit a single and a three-run triple in the sixth inning to lift Greenville over Forest Hills of Jackman. Shawn Mills hit three singles for Greenville (1-0). Corey Plante singled twice to lead Forest Hills (1-1).

Caribou 12, Fort Kent 2

At Caribou, Pat Thibodeau had a triple, double, two singles along with two RBIs and two runs scored to help lead Caribou to victory over Fort Kent. Ted Walker hit an RBI single and a second inning two-run home run for the Vikings (3-0). Matt Kinney added a double, single and an RBI. Aaron Paradis led Fort Kent (0-2) with a single and a two-run double.

Houlton 14, Hodgdon 10

At Hodgdon, Josh Harvey doubled, singled and stole a base as Houlton defeated the Hawks. Pat Longstaff had two singles and knocked in a run for Houlton’s Shiretowners (1-1). Dan McGillicuddy and Ryan Wellington each hit two-run singles for Hodgdon (0-2).

LCS/MSSM 12, Ashland 4

At Limestone, Aaron St. Pierre singled and scored two runs to help lift Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics over Ashland. Danny Cote also scored two runs for the Eagles (1-1). Jake Paradis scored twice for the Hornets (1-1).

Katahdin 10, Southern Aroostook 1

At Stacyville, Andy Kay and Evan McCarthy combined to allow one run on one hit, five walks while striking out 17 to lead Katahdin past Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook. Kay had 14 strikeouts in six innings and McCarthy struck out the side in the seventh. Kay tripled and doubled for the Cougars (2-0). Ethan Qualey hit a two-run single and McCarthy added an RBI single. Jonathan Keyes hit a run-scoring double to pace Southern Aroostook (2-1).

Mattanawcook 11, Presque Isle 1

At Lincoln, Ivan Voisine hit a grand slam in first inning and a run-scoring single in the third to lead Mattanawcook Academy past Presque Isle. Josh Murchison tripled and scored two runs for the Lynx (2-1). Tyler Tash added a double, single and two runs. Eric Morris single in the third for Presque Isle (0-3) and Zac Campbell drove him in with a double.

Bucksport 11, Ellsworth 6

At Bucksport, Stephen Klenowski had a double, three singles and two RBIs for the Bucksport Golden Bucks. Kyle McGeechan had three singles and two RBIs for the Bucks (3-1). Mickey Manning and Jordan Carter each had three singles for the Eagles (2-1). Pat Kelley had a double and a single.

Central 4, Foxcroft 2

At Dover-Foxcroft, Nick Harvey struck out 15 to lift Central of Corinth over Foxcroft Academy. Harvey allowed two runs on three hits and two walks to pick up the win for Central (2-1). David Lord hit two RBI singles, Josh Collins added a run-scoring double and Jacob Speed doubled. Tony Gabarro hit an RBI single in the seventh for the Ponies (4-1).

MDI 8, Old Town 3

At Bar Harbor, Devon Young knocked in three runs with three singles and Nolan Hall contributed two singles and two RBIs as Mount Desert Island upended Old Town. Hall and Jasper Cousins combined on a four-hitter, striking out seven and walking five. Sammy Stewart had a single and two RBIs for the winners (2-2), while Josh Coffin doubled and drove in a run for Old Town (0-3).

Caribou 24, Fort Kent 5

At Caribou, freshman Emily Staples pitched a no-hitter as Caribou defeated Fort Kent. Staples recorded nine strikeouts for Caribou (1-2) as Ashley Ayotte had a double, two singles and four RBIs. Kristen Espling scored four runs and hit a three-run double. Ashley Doucette and Katie Ouellette each hit three singles. Liz Morneault scored two runs for Fort Kent (0-1).

Southern Aroostook 23, Katahdin 20

At Stacyville, the Warriors of Dyer Brook erupted for five runs in the fifth inning to regain the lead for good. Sara Crandall singled four times for Southern Aroostook (2-1), Shelby Hartin posted a double and two singles and Brittany Charette added three singles. Delaney Porkorny led the Cougars (1-1) with four singles, Kali Rush rapped a triple and two singles, Lacey Pelletier had a double and two singles and Melissa Duffy contributed three singles.

Mattanawcook 3, Presque Isle 0

At Lincoln, Tayla Trask allowed one hit while striking out 15 batters and walking one to lead Mattanawcook Academy past the visiting Wildcats (1-2). Brooke Hanscom led the 3-0 Lynx offensively with three singles and two stolen bases. Trask had two singles and an RBI. Chelsea Nickerson ended Trask’s no-hit bid with a double in the fifth.

Van Buren 11, Gr. Houlton Christian Acad. 8

At Van Buren, Amanda Labreck had three singles and three RBIs to help lead the host Crusaders past Greater Houlton Christian Academy. Jen Ouellette, Angel Richard, and Brittany Gagnon each had two singles and an RBI. Lindsay Joyce had two singles for the Crusaders (1-1). Megan Carroll had two doubles, two singles and three RBIs for the Eagles (1-1). Casey Parker had two singles and four RBIs.

Woodland 16, Machias 0

At Machias, Marlene Flaherty had two singles, a double and two RBIs to lead the Woodland Dragons to the win. Ariel Knights had a triple, two singles and an RBI. Molly White had a triple and a double for the Dragons (3-0). The 0-2 Bulldogs’ only hits came on singles by Kala Conley and Fayranne Lipton.

LCS/MSSM 12, Ashland11

At Limestone, Audra Kirk’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth proved to deliver the winning run as the Limestone/MSSM Eagles survived Ash-land’s four-run rally in the seventh. Chelsea Leighton had two singles and two RBIs for the Eagles (3-0). Crystal Cook had two doubles and Andrea Mayo added a double, a single and two RBIs for the Hornets (1-1).

Bucksport 11, Ellsworth 1

At Bucksport, the Golden Bucks used a balanced offensive attack and a fine pitching performance from junior righthander Sarah Sutherland to post a comfortable Class B victory over Ellsworth. Bucksport (3-1) parlayed two walks, two passed balls, an error and a wild pitch into a pair of first-inning runs while pushing across five in the fourth and four in the sixth to pull away. Megan Panaro sparked the fourth-inning uprising with an RBI double down the leftfield line. Shelby Redman followed that up with an RBI single to center while Rochelle Pelletier plated two more with a single, sandwiched around Bailey Blair’s sacrifice fly. Kaitlynn Williams and India Stewart each had two-run singles in the sixth. Sutherland moved the ball throughout the strike zone efficiently while her defense committed just one error behind her. She scattered one unearned run on five hits while throwing 96 pitches and striking out eight. Anna Seavey singled and scored Ellsworth’s lone run on a throwing error in the sixth while Lily Cooper hit a third-inning triple for the 0-3 Eagles.

Old Town 12, MDI 0

At Bar Harbor, Sarah Wilcox and Whitney Buck each drove in three runs and Hannah Morin pitched five innings of four-hit ball as Old Town (3-0) triumphed in a game called after five innings due to the mercy rule. Wilcox had two doubles and a single and Buck doubled twice. Morin and Micayla Hussey had two singles each. MacKenzie Curtis doubled and singled for Mount Desert Island (1-3).

Houlton 20, Hodgdon 7

At Hodgdon, down 7-5, Houlton scored 13 runs with two outs in the sixth inning to defeat Hodgdon. Nikki Eastman pitched three shutout innings to end the game, recording seven strikeouts for Houlton. Erika Lackey had a double and two singles for the Shiretowners. Lainey Herring hit a triple and two singles and Vanessa Sanderson added a double and two singles. Taylor Hovey and Whitney Wallace had two doubles each for Hodgdon. Taylor McGary singled twice.

Foxcroft 9, Central 3

At Dover-Foxcroft, Vanessa Lougee hit a single and a fifth inning two-run triple to help lead Foxcroft Academy past Central of Corinth. Sam Snyder hit two singles and knocked in two runs for the Ponies (3-2). Courtney Withee added two singles and scored three runs. Alix Rudzinski hit two singles and drove in a run for Central (1-2).

Forest Hills 18, Greenville 7

At Greenville, Crystal Allen drove in three runs with a double and a single and tossed a complete-game eight-hitter as Forest Hills of Jackman beat Greenville. Elise Begin doubled and singled and knocked in a run and Jasmine Worster had a pair of singles and two RBIs for the winners (1-1). Rachel Soule and Ruby Rockwell each doubled and singled and had an RBI for the Lakers (0-1).
