CORINNA – Leland Prescott Welch, 77, went home to see the Lord April 27, 2009, in Pittsfield, after an extended illness. He was born April 8, 1932, in Corinna, the son of Eugene and Hazel (Whittaker) Welch. He graduated from Corinna Union Academy and had worked at Eastland Woolen, Corinna, Manhattan Jewelers, and Sears before graduating from DeVry Technical Institute, Chicago, and starting his own radio and television repair service in the local area, making thousands of repairs for more than 50 years. He loved camping, gardening, hunting and fishing. He had a special talent for music and had been a violinist in the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. He is survived by three children, Steven Welch and his wife, Lucy, of Newport, Deborah Welch and significant other, Arnold Dow, of Bangor, and Brenda Welch of Newport; a special loved one, Bruce Welch of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren, Kaili Patrakis, Bredena Scontrino, Jherad Welch, Linzy Welch, Melanie Martin, Steven Lee Welch Jr. and Maribel Brogden; nine great-grandchildren, Nico, Anthony, Izaac, Isis, Haleigh, Indika Hazel, Evan, Nolan and Alicia; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Pearson; several nieces and nephews; and his pet dog, Bo. Leland was predeceased by his siblings, Phillip Welch, Geneva Welch, Dale and Fran Welch, Eugene Welch Jr., Christine Marie Sawyer and William Langway; and a special friend, Warren Nadeau. A special thanks is extended to all the doctors, nurses and caregivers who lovingly cared for Leland during his illness. Graveside memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Village Cemetery, Corinna, with Pastor Sharon Jones and Pastor David Ray officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to join them after the service for a time of fellowship and potluck refreshments at the VFW Hall, West Street, Newport. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401 or Bangor Symphony Orchestra.
