LAMOINE – Hildred J. Herrick, 81, died April 24, 2009, at an Ellsworth hospital after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Waltham, the daughter of Earle K. and Mabel (Salisbury) Jordan. Hildred attended Waltham Grammar School, graduated from Ellsworth High School, Class of 1945, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, and graduated from Husson College. She worked at Union Trust Co. for nine years. Hildred was very particular and meticulous, especially at her knitting and embroidering. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed her flower gardens, and was a wonderful cook and canner. She was a member of Lamoine Baptist Church, Eastern Star and lifetime member of the Grange. She was involved with the 4-H Club, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Pioneer Girls. She put everyone else first, especially her daughter, Julie, family and her home. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Albert S. Herrick; son, David and wife, Julie; daughter, Susan and husband, Jim, all of Lamoine; her very special grandchildren, David Jr., Anne and Jordin; and brother, Harland Jordan of Waltham. She will also be sorely missed by her feline friend, Oscar, who filled a huge void; and her very special neighbors, Henry and Mary Jane Ashmore. She was predeceased by her daughter, Julie Anne; brothers, Roger Jordan and Benjamin Franklin Jordan; and sisters, Esther Cousins, Merle Jordan and infant sister, Ida Jordan. Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Lamoine Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Robertson officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Lamoine.
