STONINGTON – Frances T. Greenlaw, 95, died April 24, 2009, in the presence of family and friends at a Blue Hill hospital. Fran was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of William R. and Katie (Hebermehl) Tesch. Her husband of 60 years was Lawrence P. Greenlaw, who died Sept. 18, 1999. Fran is survived by a son, Lawrence “Skip” Greenlaw Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Stonington; a daughter, Susan and her husband, Dr. Wolfgang Pluhar, of Graz, Austria; three grandsons, Peter B. Pluhar and his wife, Lena, of Vienna, Austria, Hans N. Pluhar and his wife, G?l, of Istanbul, Turkey, and Philipp G. Pluhar of Graz, Austria; and a great-granddaughter, Ana Pluhar of Vienna, Austria. She is also survived by one niece, Pamela Steele of Brooklin; and four nephews, William L. Miller Jr. of Kennebunk, Ronald Heske of Bridgeport, Conn., Bruce Greenlaw of Stonington and Paul Greenlaw of Deer Isle. She also leaves many dear friends whom she loved and who loved her dearly. Fran was a graduate of Booth and Bayliss Commercial School, Bridgeport, Conn. She was an unusually gifted and competent executive secretary for many years of her life starting at GE Supply, Bridgeport, Conn., and Boston. For a number of years, she was employed by several ministers in West Roxbury, Mass., where she and Larry lived for 47 years. Fran was a committed Christian her entire life. She was a member of three churches: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgeport, Conn.; Emmanuel Episcopal Church, West Roxbury, Mass.; and St. Brendan-the-Navigator Episcopal Church, Stonington. She served on the vestry of Emmanuel and St. Brendan’s for many years as clerk and junior warden, and directress of the altar guild at St. Brendan’s. She was also involved in numerous community activities in West Roxbury, Mass., Deer Isle and Stonington, and served for several years as a mentor at Deer Isle/ Stonington Elementary School. A celebration of Fran’s life will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday April 28, at St. Mary Star-of-the-Sea Roman Catholic Church, Thurlow’s Hill, Stonington, with the Rev. Virginia Peacock, rector of St. Brendan-the-Navigator Episcopal Church, officiating. A reception will be after the service at Fran’s home, 23 Indian Point Road.
