SHIRLIE BERNICE STAPLES

BROOKLIN – Shirlie Bernice Staples, 83, died April 22, 2009, at a Deer Isle health care facility. She was born July 9, 1925, in Deer Isle, daughter of George and Nora (Sewall) Hardy. Shirlie loved gardening. She remembered everyone’s birthday with a fantastic pie or her wonderful fudge. She was a member of Brooklin Baptist Church Missionary Outreach Program, volunteered with Sunshine Baskets for shut-ins and was a deacon at the church. She is survived by her son, Timothy and wife, Terri, of Brooklin; daughters, Nora Straub of New York and Donna Natalie and husband, Bod, of Connecticut; sisters, Tillie Grindle and Frances Shepard, both of Deer Isle; sisters-in-law, Peggy Hodgdon of Blue Hill and Margaret Staples of Brooklin; grandchildren, Richard Armstrong, Wendy Wenzel, Teressa Rutkauskes, Dwight Staples and Erika Fill; six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Kenneth A. Staples Sr.; and sons, Dwight and Kenneth Jr. Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Jordan-Fernald, 141 South St., Blue Hill. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 27, at Brooklin Baptist Church with Pastor James Lufkin officiating. Interment will be at Brooklin Cemetery.
