LAKEVILLE – Roland G. Day, 73, died April 20, 2009, surrounded by his wife and children at Legacy Hospice House, Ocala, Fla. He was born Aug. 16, 1935, in New Sharon, the son of Guy Wesley Day and Faye (Currier) Day. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Ellen Marie Steele. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Marie Elizabeth (McCormick) Day; his children, Laurie Gehrke and husband, Bruce, Layton Day and wife, Lorri, and Kimberly Day and husband, Rick; grandchildren, Jeffery, Steven, Jennifer, James, Cassie, Nicole, Wesley, Adam, Sam, MacKenzie, Leo and Katelyn; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Lloyd Day and his wife, Margaret. Roland graduated in 1954 from New Sharon High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of sergeant. He graduated from Gorham Teachers College in 1963. He taught school in Old Town and at Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. In 1977 he and his wife started a family business, Bangor Millwork and Supply, Inc., d/b/a Bangor Wholesale Laminates. He retired in 2003 and lived at Junior Lake in the summer and wintered in Ocala, Fla. He was a devoted family man, and loved camping, hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Memories will be shared in a celebration of his life 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Jeff’s Catering, Brewer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
