BANGOR – James William Miller, 74, a longtime Bangor resident, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. After graduating from high school, he served in the Navy during the Korean War as an aircraft electrician and his exceptional abilities earned him a place on the Blue Angels flying team, an honor he was always proud of. While in the Navy, he met and married Betty Wopschall, also in the Navy. After leaving the Navy, he became a master electrician working on several significant projects, including the space shuttle at Cape Canaveral. An avid baseball fan, Jim gave his time for many years as a coach for the Little League and Babe Ruth League organizations. Jim is survived by his wife, Betty (Wopschall) Miller; three sons, James, John and Jason; two daughters, Janeen and Janette; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Pine Grove Remembrance Center, 1347 Hammond St., Bangor, with the Rev. Roland Nadeau, Catholic chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, officiating. Interment with military honors will be at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta, at a later date.
