VAN BUREN – Gerard P. Desjardins, 83, died April 23, 2009, at a Van Buren health care facility. He was born March 3, 1926, in Van Buren, the son of Frank and Elise (Soucie) Desjardins. Gerard worked as a carpenter for many years and was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for more than 50 years. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors, especially when caring for his small farm animals. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lorraine Marie Mae (Madore) Desjardins of Van Buren; six sons, Philip Desjardins and his wife, Brigitte, of Prospect Harbor, Peter Desjardins and his wife, Jeanne, of Durham, John Desjardins of Cundy Harbor, Eugene Desjardins of Corpus Christie, Texas, Mark Desjardins and his wife, Elena, of Hebron, Conn., and Paul Desjardins and his wife, Norma, of Mapleton; three daughters, Anne Marie Aubin and her husband, Robert, of Hebron, Conn., Patty Ann Boutot and her husband, Alan, of Lisbon Falls and Cheryl Thompson and her husband, Robert, of Lisbon; one sister, Florence Pono of Bath; two brothers, Wilfred Desjardins of Van Buren and Albert Desjardins of Freeport; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Gerard was predeceased by one son, George Desjardins in 1996; and 11 brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. until the time of service Monday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Interment will be at the parish cemetery later this spring.
