EAST MACHIAS – Dexter L. Ashley, 80, husband of Dorothy (Griffin) Ashley, went peacefully to be with the Lord Sunday, April 19, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at the home of his daughter, Mary, in Easley, S.C. Born March 27, 1929, in East Machias, he was the son of the late John and Adrith Ashley. He served as Scoutmaster for many years in Bradley. He retired as a forester/surveyor from James W. Sewall Co. in 1991 after serving four years in the Navy. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Terry Hallsey-Scott and husband, Mike, of Camden, S.C., and Mary Clater and husband, Bill, of Easley, S.C.; sons, Dwayne and wife, Betty, of Bristol, Tenn., Dwight and wife, Debbie, of Ellsworth and Dexter John and wife, Holli, of Lake Ariel, Pa.; many special grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; sisters, Angie Henderson and husband, Gerald, of Bridgewater and Mary Mattatall and husband, Stan, of Portland; and brother, Albert and wife, Betty, of Saco. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gene, Jim and Alvah. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 11, at the family cemetery, East Machias.
