Baseball

Lee 5, Bangor Christian 3

At Lee, Dean MacDonald hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to lift the Pandas to the win.

Allan Smith hit two singles while Ryan Beers struck out eight and gave up no earned runs in six innings.

Chris Potter singled twice and Brett Bradford doubled for Bangor Christian.

Foxcroft 17, Piscataquis 0

At Guilford, Mitchell Fadley tossed a no-hitter as Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft beat Piscataquis.

The righthander allowed just three walks and struck out 10 through five innings for the Ponies. Jamie Nason singled, doubled and tripled and Ryan Olmstead hit three singles.

Mt. Blue 6, Hampden 2

At Hampden, Brad Dority hit a two-run single in the fifth inning to give Mt. Blue of Farmington the lead en route to a season-opening over Hampden Academy.

Jordan Schanck scored two runs for the Cougars while Dority struck out four and picked up the complete-game pitching win.

Cody Miller hit a second-inning home run and a single to lead Hampden. Shawn Smith singled twice.

Bangor 5, Skowhegan 2

At Skowhegan, Bangor scored four runs in the fifth inning as the Rams topped Skowhegan.

Ryan Larochelle hit a two-run single in the fifth for the Rams. Cody McInnis doubled and scored twice and Lonnie Hackett added an RBI double.

Jordan Clarke struck out eight in five innings to record the win.

John Little hit a run-scoring double in the fifth for Skowhegan. Jude Burke also doubled.

Softball

Mt. Blue 11, Hampden 9

At Hampden, Kaitlyn Bartlett hit a triple, a single and drove in a run as Mt. Blue of Farmington rallied past Hampden for the win.

Sabrina Keach added two singles and an RBI for the Cougars.

Olivia Plaisted led Hampden with two singles while Ashley Danforth had a double.

Skowhegan 1, Bangor 0

At Skowhegan, Becca McCarty tossed a five-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to lead Skowhegan past Bangor.

Whitney Jones reached base on a walk and later scored the winning run on a rundown that ensued after a fielder’s choice grounder in the fourth inning.

Sam Bedore allowed one run on two hits and struck out eight for Bangor. Kim Jordan, Mariah Cassum, Sadie Redman, Jeri Cosgrove and Bedore each singled.

Bangor Christian 17, Lee 3

At Lee, Chelsea Brasslett singled, drew four walks, scored three runs and drove in two runs to lead Bangor Christian to victory.

Brittany O’Kelly, Kristen Roemmich and Abbie Vicnaire also singled for the Patriots, while Ashley Levasseur scored three runs.

Monica Alexander pitched a five-inning two-hitter for Bangor Christian.

Kellsey Grass doubled, singled and scored a run for Lee Academy.

Foxcroft 10, Piscataquis 6

At Guilford, Foxcroft Academy broke the 5-5 tie with five runs in the sixth inning off two doubles and six Piscataquis errors to earn the win.

Courtney Withee doubled and scored three runs to pace the Ponies. Bekah Flanders hit an RBI double and scored a run. Kelsey Boss recorded 10 strikeouts.

Samara Hooper led the Pirates with an RBI double. Cyndi Currier singled and scored a run.

COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS

Baseball

Thomas sweeps UMF

At Farmington, Chris Farrar pitched a one-hitter as Thomas of Waterville took the first game of a doubleheader from UMaine-Farmington 8-0. The Terriers won the nightcap 5-2.

In the first game, Farrar had three strikeouts while walking one in his effort while Jared Fieldsend singled, doubled and drove in a couple runs.

Dana Leland added a solo home run for the winners.

Matt Judkins singled for UMF.

In the second game, Nick Schauwecker singled and hit two doubles to knock in two runs to pace the Terriers.

Leland and Tom Desjardins had three singles apiece, with Desjardins slapping an RBI single during the Terriers’ three-run fifth.

Phineas Peake and Kyle Shea had two singles apiece while Tyler Hanson hit a solo homer for the Beavers.

Southern Maine 5, Bates 3

At Lewiston, Josh Mackey hit a home run, two singles and scored three runs as the University of Southern Maine rallied to defeat Bates College.

Anthony D’Alfonso and Anthony Pisani added two hits each for the Huskies of Gorham.

Chris Burke hit three singles to pace Bates while Kelvin Gutierrez had an RBI double.

Softball

Husson sweeps Maine Maritime

At Bangor, Caitlin LeBorgne scattered five hits and allowed no walks while striking out nine to lead Husson University to the 9-0 shutout win over Maine Maritime Academy of Castine in the first game of a doubleheader. The Eagles also captured the second game 9-3.

In the first game, Sarah Risser hit two singles and knocked in three runs for Husson. Nicole Sargent had a double and two singles with two RBIs. Brianna Webster doubled with two RBIs and Diann Ramsey doubled and singled.

Mallery Stanley hit two singles to lead the Mariners.

In the second game, Dorothy Cameron had a triple, single and two RBIs for the Eagles. Megan Bradstreet tripled and singled and Webster doubled and singled with two RBIs.

Nicole Sargent struck out eight while picking up the win.

Hannah Seamans singled and drove in a run for MMA. Megan Russell singled and scored.

UM-Farmington, Thomas split

At Farmington, Jordan Kennedy pitched a six-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as Thomas College of Waterville defeated the University of Maine-Farmington 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Beavers won the second game 2-0.

In the first game, Jennifer Higgins had two hits including an RBI single to drive in the winning run for Thomas.

Jessica Timmreck hit three singles while Shannon Mitchell doubled for UMF.

In the second game, Mckell Barnes singled twice and drove in a run to lead the Beavers. Chelsea Cozzolino chipped in with two singles.

Mallorie Blakney and Kristy Clements each had two singles to pace Thomas.

USM, Plymouth State split

At Plymouth, N.H., Heather Gilman hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning to help propel the University of Southern Maine by Plymouth State University 3-1 in the second game of a Wednesday doubleheader.

The Huskies dropped the first game 2-1.

In the first game, Andrea Pydynkowski hit a two-run home run to propel Plymouth State.

Nani Jacobs hit a double while Sarah Deroche drove in a run for Southern Maine.

In the second game, Cerise Humphrey hit an RBI triple for the Huskies. Sarah Cusack added a double and a single.

Kortney Nedeau had two singles and an RBI to pace Plymouth State.

Men’s lacrosse

MMA 8, Johnson State 3

At Johnson, Vt., Christopher Keiley and Garrett Lake each posted three goals and an assist to spark the Mariners to victory.

Brian Corain and Peter Betti each had a goal and an assist for 7-3 Maine Maritime Academy of Castine behind goalie Daniel Redmond, who made eight saves.

Billy Noyes led the 6-4 hosts with two goals while Steve Noyes added a goal and an assist. Brendan Sawyer made 15 saves.
