LUBEC – Mildred A. Mahar, 89, died April 22, 2009, at a Brewer nursing facility. She was born May 13, 1919, in Lubec, one of 13 children of John and Cecelia (Small) Denbow. She loved being in the outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, as well as working at many seasonal jobs including clamming, wrinkling, picking brush and berries. She also enjoyed the many years she worked as a senior companion. She liked playing bingo, making quilts, and she especially loved being with family, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Mahar; seven sisters and one brother. She is survived by her children, Roland Mahar, Virginia Jones, Ellery Mahar and Nancy Fitzsimmons; two brothers, Basil Denbow and Ikey Denbow; two sisters, Corrine Lyons and Madeline Lyons; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, several nieces nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, at West Lubec Methodist Church. At Mildred’s request, please no flowers at the service.
