SURRY and WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Leona “Polly” Marie Allen, 79, wife of the late Kendall E. Allen Jr., died April 18, 2009, at a hospice center in Florida. She was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Old Town, daughter of Ansil Sr. and Ethel (McLaughlin) Fowler. Leona worked for years as a housekeeper at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and also at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. She loved camping, and with Kendall she worked in a number of campgrounds in Maine and Florida. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Jean Oyster and her husband, Anthony, of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons, Bruce Eugene Allen and his wife, Linda, of Presque Isle and William Albert Allen and wife, Deena, of Ellsworth; eight grandchildren, Earle, Shannon, Anthony, Tyson, Amy, Steven, Mark and Larry; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Stanley Fowler and his wife, Gertrude, Ansil Fowler Jr. and Orman Fowler; two sisters, Velma Buxton and Arlene Spaulding; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Charlie and Joe Fowler; and three sisters, Virginia Madden, Julia Carter and Bessie Young. A graveside service will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at North Bend Cemetery, Surry. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the services at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Father Kenney Center Parish Hall, Ellsworth.
