HERMON – Joyce B. Cotton, 84, passed away April 21, 2009, at her home. Joyce was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Presque Isle, the daughter of George and Bertha Brown. She was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, Westbrook Junior College and Tufts University. Joyce was the first licensed medical technologist in Aroostook County. She did lab work at Boston University; Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit; as well as Caribou and Presque Isle hospitals. After retirement Joyce was a substitute teacher at Presque Isle High School. Joyce loved animals and wildlife. She was strictly an outdoor person and enjoyed gardening of all types, especially flowers. She was a lover of outdoor sports including skiing, skating, canoeing, golfing, camping and fishing. She was an avid tennis player and biker. She especially enjoyed playing on a local and traveling tennis team in Florida during the winter months, where she spent 24 years with her husband after retirement. Her most memorable bike ride was touring parts of Europe on her three-speed bike after college. Joyce was predeceased by her brother, James Brown. She is survived by her husband, Medley of Hermon; daughter, Andrea Nicknair and husband, Marc, of Glenburn; daughter, Vicki White and husband, Richard, of Bangor; son, James Cotton and wife, Donna, of Glenburn; and one sister, Bonnie Potter of Chamberlain. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Angela and James Nicknair of Glenburn, Bradley White of Bangor and Katie and Ben Cotton of Glenburn. A special thanks to all who contributed to her care.
