MARGARET ESTELLE PERKINS GOODRIDGE

HARMONY – Margaret Estelle Perkins Goodridge, 86, was called to heaven Saturday, April 18, 2009. “Maggie” was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Clinton, Mass., to Chester and Madeline Henreckson. She graduated from Goodwill High School, Hinckley, in 1940 and Farmington State Teachers College in 1945. She was a schoolteacher for 28 years and taught at Goodwill, Augusta schools, Wellington, and Harmony, where for a time she served as the principal. She co-owned and operated Lakeview Farm, a sporting camp and camping area in Harmony with her husband, Elden, for 35 years. Maggie was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and served there as the organist/pianist, taught Sunday school and worked with the youth group. She was also a member of the National Education Association, Maine Teachers Association and Somerset Retired Teachers Association. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Elden F. Perkins of Harmony; her second husband, Richard Goodridge of Millinocket; and her nephew, Mark Allen. She is survived by her son, Dale A. Perkins and his wife, Deborah, of Monmouth; three granddaughters, Kimberly Brewer and her husband, Douglas, of Greensboro, N.C., Bethany Ferland and her husband, Henry, of Magnolia, Mass., and Stephany Perkins of Monmouth. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Valliere of Biddeford; her niece, Jolene Valliere; and her nephew, Andrew Valliere. Margaret’s family extends their sincerest thanks to Redington Memorial Home for providing such a wonderful and caring environment for Margaret to live; to Dr. Michael Lambke for his care of Margaret; and to Woodlawn Nursing Home for their tender care of Margaret during her final days. A Christian memorial and celebration service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at First Baptist Church, Harmony. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to First Baptist Church of Harmony, Expansion Fund, P.O. Box 5, Harmony, ME 04942. Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
