WALDOBORO, Maine — A local woman was killed and another seriously injured in a stabbing attack outside the home of the injured woman Sunday night, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

McCausland said Rachel Grindal, 27, of Waldoboro was killed and Tracy Neild, 32, was seriously injured when they were attacked and stabbed in the van Grindal was driving just after they pulled into the driveway at Neild’s Controversy Lane home about 10 p.m. Sunday.

A third woman in the van ran to a neighbor’s home to call for help.

Neild was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston where she was treated for her wounds.

A team of detectives, Waldoboro police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office personnel investigated the attack during the night and remained on the scene Monday morning. McCausland said in a press conference late Monday morning that the van and Grindal’s body had been removed from the scene.

Police said they had strong leads on the identity of the attacker and were still interviewing people.
