BANGOR – Stephen Wyman Leighton, 59, died unexpectedly April 13, 2009, at his residence. He was born Jan. 10, 1950, in Bangor, the son of Franklin B. and Roberta (Taylor) Leighton. Steve served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at Eastern Fine Paper for 25 years and was very active in its union and served as its president. More recently Steve worked as a warehouse manager for ADCO. He loved to fish, hunt and golf, and more recently enjoyed participating in geo-cache. Steve could do or fix about anything, although he was not a master of any particular trade. His family was very proud of his service to his country and he was a wonderful son, father, brother, companion and dear friend. He is survived by his daughter, Kelli Leighton of Hermon; his loving companion, Lynn Burnett of Bangor; her children, Molly Briggs and “PJ” Tardiff; new granddaughter, Addison; the mother of his daughter, Linda Leighton of Brewer; his brothers and sisters, Rebecca Carr and husband, William, of Steuben, Beth Carr and husband, Frank, of Bangor, Bobbi Curtis and husband, David, of Sun City Center, Fla., and Bruce Leighton and wife, Linda, of Orrington; many nieces, nephews and dear, lifelong friends. A service of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of Hermon Baptist Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
