VERONA ISLAND – Arline Faye Mitchell, 81, died April 13, 2009, at a Howland nursing facility after a period of failing health. She was born April 1, 1928, in Skowhegan, daughter of Ernest C. and Hattie A. (Burns) Dunton. Arline graduated from Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield, Class of 1947. That same year, she married her husband, Charles R. Mitchell Sr., of Bangor, who predeceased her. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and in her earlier years, playing cards and bowling was a favorite pastime. Arline is survived by her children, Charles R. Mitchell Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of Milford, Kathy Maguire and her husband, Ed, of Orland, and Brian J. Mitchell and his wife, LaRona, of Germany; eight grandchildren, Heather and Adam Mitchell of Richmond, Casey Maguire, Ph.D., and his fiancee, Dr. Nancy Tran, of Arlington, Mass., Lyndsay Maguire-Lord and her husband, Spc. Joseph Lord, of Allenhurst, Ga., Brooke Mitchell of Houston, Kayla, Leeia and Karee Mitchell, all of Germany; two brothers, Kenneth Dunton and his wife, Dulcie, of Barrington, N.H., and George Dunton and his wife, Marjorie, of Gorham; brother-in-law, Gerald Sage of Maxfield; sisters-in-law, Patia Mitchell of Brewer and Elaine Kelleher of Bucksport; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Charles R. Mitchell Sr., in 1995; four sisters, Crystal Barron, Helen O’Donnell, Isabelle Flanagan and Elsie Sage; and one brother, Richard Dunton. Visitation for family and friends will be held 1:30-3 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where a service of remembrance will be held 3 p.m. with the Rev. Linda Smith and Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Donations may be made in her memory to Bucksport Bay Friends, Adult Day Program, P.O.
