VINALHAVEN, Maine — A vacant summer home was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning, an official from the State Fire Marshal’s Office said.
“It was well under way and fully involved upon the Fire Department being notified,” Sgt. Ken Grimes said Tuesday afternoon.
He said that Fire Chief Marc Candage had contacted his office for assistance in determining the origin and cause of the fire.
However, the fire had progressed so far that the two investigators who went to Vinalhaven on Tuesday were unable to make a clear determination.
“It just destroyed so much of the building,” Grimes said. “The fire’s going to be classified as undetermined.”
The building’s owner lives in North Quincy, Mass., he said. Efforts to reach Candage on Tuesday were unsuccessful.
No further details were released Tuesday.
