School incident spurs inquiry in Trenton

TRENTON, Maine — A special meeting of the Trenton school committee scheduled to discuss an incident at the elementary school has been canceled because the incident is under investigation by police, according to Union 92 Superintendent Omar Norton.

The special meeting had been scheduled for Thursday, April 16.

The incident occurred Friday, April 10, and involved pupils at the local elementary school, Norton said Tuesday. Details were not being released publicly, but Norton said the incident was alleged to have involved bullying. He referred all other questions about the incident to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, which is looking into the incident.

Richard Bishop, chief deputy for the Sheriff’s Department, said Tuesday that the incident occurred on school property. He said the Sheriff’s Department is consulting with the school about what happened and what, if any, action should be pursued.

“There was no damage to the school and no one was injured,” Bishop said.
