ETNA – In the twinkling of an eye, Shirley F. Macomber went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior, April 8, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 26, 1929, in Dorchester, Mass., the daughter of Lloyd and Isa (Given) Bessey. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, John A. Macomber; three daughters, Sharon Nute and husband, Charles, of Carmel, Cynthia McRae of Middleboro, Mass., and Glenda Rubin and husband, Norman Rubin, of Moorehead, Ky.; one son, John Macomber Jr. of Troy; one sister, Lois Foster and husband, Dave Foster, of Northport, Fla.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by special camping friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Richmond Bessey and his wife, Dorothy. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Calvary Baptist Church, 39 Grove St., Newport, with Pastor George Finnemore officiating.
