BANGOR – James E. Rice, 75, husband of the late Virginia “Ginny” (Melvin) Rice, passed away unexpectedly April 12, 2009, at his home. He was born April 13, 1934, in Brewer, the son of Louis and Marguerite (Dunn) Rice. Jimmy worked for more than 20 years at Bangor House Hotel and Penobscot Valley Country Club. He also worked as a finished carpenter for Downeast Associates, as well as other construction contractors, and completed his working career with Cyr Bus Co., where he drove a bus for special needs children until 1997. Jimmy loved the family camp on Pushaw Lake, Orono. His most joyful times were spent at Camp Pines, where he enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, boating, watching and feeding the birds, the many lobster bakes and 4th of July festivities. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children, Debra Rice and her husband, Michael Grenier, of Bangor, Dale Rice and his wife, Ann, of Corinna, David Rice of Hudson, and Dianne Rice and her significant other, Brian Hansen, of Dedham; his grandchildren, Jeromy, Ryan, Justin, Matthew and Katy; two sisters, Mary Carter and her husband, Walter, of Maryland, and Margaret Lyford and her husband, Joseph, of Florida; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio Street, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service in the church hall. Private interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
