Boothbay Harbor man charged after six-hour standoff

BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine — A 53-year-old Boothbay Harbor man faces multiple charges following a six-hour standoff at his home.

The ordeal started Sunday night when a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department sergeant stopped by Michael Brewer’s home to make sure he was complying with bail conditions on another charge. Police say Brewer, who appeared to be intoxicated, fled to a crawl space in his attic and threatened to shoot officers and himself.

Authorities then evacuated nearby homes as they negotiated with Brewer.

Officials say the standoff ended peacefully at 12:30 a.m. Monday when a Maine State Police crisis negotiator persuaded Brewer to come out. He is being held at the Two Bridges Regional Jail.
