IVORY H. LAINSBURY BREWER – Ivory H. Lainsbury passed away at a Bangor nursing facility and went to a more peaceful place Saturday, April 11, 2009, after a long illness. Ivy was born Nov. 25, 1929, in Bangor, the son of Ivory H. Inman and Doris Lainsbury Inman, both now deceased. Ivy was an avid golfer enjoying many years of membership and golf at local courses and was also passionate about bowling. Ivory had a lifelong interest in woodworking and took great pleasure in giving away many of his creations to friends and family. He enjoyed many years of square dancing and was once president of the Whirling 8’s in Hampden. Ivy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer, for more than 50 years, where he spent many years singing in the choir and served on the board of trustees. He was a member of Ralph J. Pollard Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years and was a Teamster, retiring in 1989 after 30 years of delivering freight to local businesses for Bemis Express, Sanborn’s Motor Express and later APA. Ivy is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of 57 years, Carolyn L. (Holyoke) Lainsbury, whom he married after returning from a stint with the U.S. Marines; three sons, Edward H. “Ted” and his wife, Anne, of Mobile, Ala., Paul A. and his wife, Alexandra, of Worms, Germany, and David A. and his wife, Debra, of Eddington; four grandchildren, James E. and his wife, Jan, of Missoula, Mont., Jason A. and his wife, Kristen, of Orono, Michelle and Lisa of Worms, Germany; a brother, Donald Inman of Millinocket; brothers-in-law, Vernon Holyoke of Newport, Ralph Holyoke and his wife, Peggy, and Bill Holyoke and his wife, Louise, of Orrington; many nieces and nephews. The family extends its gratitude for the care Ivy received at Eastside Rehabilitation and Living Center, Bangor. Family and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 13, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State St., Brewer, with the Rev. Roger Davis, pastor, presiding. A reception will be afterward at the church.
