BANGOR – Jon Anthony Vonderau, 45, left this world Dec. 17, 2008, after a long and difficult illness. Jon was born July 15, 1963, in Denver. He moved to Clearwater, Fla., at 3 months, and lived there until joining the Army in 1983. Jon was an MP stationed in Germany and he was proud to serve his country. He met his wife of 22 years, Donna, in Florida and moved with her to her home state of Maine, in Bangor, in 1988. They had two daughters, Kayla, 17, and Nikki, 15. Jon was an at-home dad when the girls were young and enjoyed taking them on adventures every summer. He chaperoned school trips, Girl Scout trips and volunteered at BACC events. He was a friend and helper to many people, taking neighbors on errands and stopping to chat with anyone he met on his walks with his dog, Frodo. He was a very good-hearted person, and especially enjoyed the time that he spent with his wife and daughters. A very close-knit family, they relied on his silly sense of humor to get through the tough times. Even when he was ill, he kept telling jokes and kept the people around him laughing. He was loved and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife and daughters; a brother, Daniel in Florida; a brother, Art in Oregon; a sister, Helena in Texas; a sister, Debbie in Arizona; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Chancy Vonderau of Clearwater, Fla.; and father. A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. April 19 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Orland.
