MACHIAS, Maine — A 22-year-old East Machias man is set to change his plea to guilty of manslaughter in the death of his 2-year-old stepson.

William Bryson is scheduled to appear Friday in Washington County Superior Court.

Bryson is accused of acting negligently in the death of Damon Nason. The boy died March 2, 2008, in a Bangor hospital. Authorities said he had bruises on his chin, head, throat and buttocks.

Bryson had told police that Damon fell in the bathtub while taking a bath. The defendant initially pleaded not guilty, but Deputy Attorney General Bill Stokes said he is changing the plea to guilty as part of an agreement that includes a cap on his prison sentence.
