PENOBSCOT – Martha A. Gracie, 80, passed away April 9, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Penobscot, the daughter of Thomas and Hittie (Harrington) Pickering. Martha lived her entire life in Penobscot, and worked many years as a certified nurse’s aide at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and as a ward clerk at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. Martha enjoyed many things in her lifetime – her family, her new car every few years, attending stock car races, especially with her first born grandson, Aaron, many wrestling events featuring both grandsons, Aaron and Tim Boetsch, and many travels with friend, Jean Lundeen and annual trips to Florida. She was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star. She most enjoyed the sight of her children and grandchildren coming through her front door. She is survived by her children: son, Raymond Pickering of Clinton; daughter, Joyce Gracie of Richmond; daughter, Janice Boetsch and husband, Greg, of Lincolnville and their sons, Aaron and his wife, Julie and daughters, Jasmine, Madison and McKinley, all of Fort Knox, Ky., and Tim and his wife, Jade and son, Christian, of Sunbury, Pa.; son, Edward Gracie and his daughter, Mary and his fiancee, Beth Storms, all of Penobscot; and daughter, Sally Bottie and husband, Art and children, Emily and Anthony, of Orono. Martha is also survived by two sisters, Virginia Gross of Bucksport and Mary Ginn of East Orland; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil E. Gracie, Oct. 22, 1974; sister, Dora Lord; and two brothers, Herbert and Frank Pickering. Visitation for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 10, and 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A private graveside service will be held later Saturday at Back Ridge Cemetery, East Orland.
