WINTER HARBOR – Katherine “Kay” Theresa (McGovern) Van Horn, 81, passed away peacefully April 7, 2009, in Ellsworth. She was born Dec. 31, 1927, in Boston, the daughter of Thomas and Mary McGovern. Kay was a resident of Milford, Conn., for many years. She was an avid quilter and sometimes seamstress. She had been a member of Rubie Chapter No. 31 and at the time of her death was a member of Alcyone Chapter No. 71, Order of the Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Burton E. Van Horn; and her sister, Isabel Arnold. Kay is survived by her children, Linda Marsh and husband, Dave, of Naugatuck, Conn., Bill Van Horn of Winter Harbor, and Tom Van Horn and his wife, Doreen, of Hamden, Conn.; three grandchildren, Susan DiVito, David John Marsh and Sarah Van Horn; and six great-grandchildren, Gina, Anthony, Nicholas, Alyssa, Jasmine and Danica. At Kay’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Greenwood Cemetery, Winter Harbor, with a short Eastern Star memorial service.
