Robert Jean Cyr, 84, of North Yarmouth, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Sedgewood Commons. He was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Sanford, to Amanda (Beland) and Omer Cyr. He attended Sanford schools and graduated from Sanford High School. He then served in the U.S. Army and was part of the D-Day landing in France and the forward advance on Berlin. After the war, he attended and graduated from Southern Massachusetts College with a degree in textile engineering. He then went on to work for United Merchant and Manufacturers, New York City, for more than 36 years. Bob had a great love of dachshunds. He enjoyed being and working outdoors. He was an amateur radio operator with the license of N1HHW. Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eleanor Cyr. He was predeceased by his son, Matthew J. Cyr; and his brother, Walter L. Cyr. The family thanks the entire staff at Sedgewood Commons for the outstanding care they gave Bob these past two years. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, with Father Raymond Picard officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford.
