GRAY, Maine — The National Weather Service posted a flood watch throughout the state and state officials monitored northern Maine rivers for potential flooding behind ice jams.
The state Transportation Department said some roads were closed or partially closed Tuesday in Knox County in southern Maine, where some areas received more than 3 inches of rain.
Some flooding was also reported in northern Maine. Officials were concerned about ice floes causing damming along the Aroostook River and were closely monitoring areas including Masardis, Washburn and Fort Fairfield. Ice-related flooding was also possible on the Piscataquis and northern Penobscot rivers, the Maine Emergency Management Agency said.
