BAILEYVILLE, Maine — Sen. Olympia Snowe is visiting the Domtar Corp. pulp mill in eastern Maine that’s slated for closure in early May, putting more than 300 people out of work.

Snowe planned to meet Monday afternoon with mill managers, town officials and union representatives to discuss the future of the mill and its workers.

Montreal-based Domtar announced last month that it was closing the mill indefinitely as of May 5 because of weak global demand for pulp, high inventory levels and depressed prices.

The mill is Washington County’s largest employer.
