MILLINOCKET – Harriet Maria (Boutaugh) Briggs, 83, died April 1, 2009, at a Bangor hospital after several years of failing health. Harriet was born July 12, 1925, the fourth of 11 children, to James Sr. and Harriet M. Boutaugh. She attended Millinocket schools and graduated from G.W. Stearns High School in 1943. She then joined the Cadet Nursing Corps. and graduated from Sommerville Hospital School of Nursing with her nursing diploma. Many years later she returned to college and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from St. Joseph’s College. Nursing was her passion and she worked in several different phases of nursing through the years. Harriet lived in Massachusetts most of her adult life, but returned to live in her hometown in 2001. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert C. Briggs “Briggsie”; her parents; her brothers, James Jr., Gary, Vaughn and Carl; and by her sisters, Gladys Heilman and Isabelle “Billie” Lane. She is survived by her brother, Wendell Boutaugh and his wife, Suzanne; her sisters, Rosetta Myrick of Florida, Christine Boutaugh of Millinocket and Natalie Boutaugh of Houlton; her sister-in-law, Jacqueline Boutaugh of Millinocket; many dear nieces and nephews. At Harriet’s request, there will be no visiting hours. There will be a graveside service at a later date this spring. Anyone wishing may donate to Millinocket Public Library, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church or to an animal shelter of one’s choosing. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
