BANGOR – Ethyl M. (Cyr) Athmer, 69, passed away peacefully April 3, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was taken by the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Oct. 9, 1939, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Elwood J. and Arlene “Dolly” A. (Currie) Cyr. Ethyl was an avid bingo player, enjoyed playing cards, and there are many fond memories of trips to Las Vegas. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor. More than anything her family was her life and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Eugene Athmer; a son, Carl Athmer and wife, Bonnie, of Hudson; two brothers, Robert Cyr and wife, Barbara, of Meriden, Conn., and Richard Cyr and wife, Louise, of Levant; two sisters, Carolyn Watson and husband, Norman, of Presque Isle and Sylvia Winslow of Bangor; a family friend, David Winslow of Brewer; an aunt, Letha Currie of Fort Fairfield; cousins, Donna Currie of Fort Fairfield, Gloria Towle and husband, Steve, of Easton, Allen, Jen and Brianne Rose Weaver of Belfast, Rickie and Richard LeSan of Belfast; many other family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Susan. A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service.
