MATTAWAMKEAG – Hayden P. McCarthy, 87, husband of the late Margaret (McLaughlin) McCarthy, passed away April 2, 2009, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born March 14, 1922, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, the son of Isaac and Rebecca (Doody) McCarthy. Hayden was a fantastic father and grandfather. He was a longtime woodsman. The spell-ing of the word “tough” is rapidly fayden’, it is now spelled “Hayden.” He is survived by five children, Donna Marie Waddell and Don of Presque Isle, Bernard McCarthy, Hayden B. Mc-Carthy and Laura, Clayton J. McCarthy and Debbie, and Royce B. McCarthy and Lori, all of Mattawamkeag; two brothers and a sister, Vernon McCarthy and Kathryn of Crystal, Barbara Porter and Mose of Patten, and Hubert McCarthy of Sherman; 14 grandchildren, several great- grandchildren, nieces and nep-hews. He also leaves a special friend, Gail Brewer. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Wayne McCarthy; a grandson, William; two special daughters-in-law, Donna Faye Mc-Carthy and Eleanor McCarthy; three brothers, Calvin, Harry and Bruce McCarthy; and three sisters, Rowena Gerard, Phyllis Foxx and Beulah Cote. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Regginal Adams officiating. Interment will be later in the spring at Mattawamkeag Ceme-tery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in his memory to Mattawamkeag Pride or Mattawamkeag Rescue.
