BANGOR – Eleanor B. Nelligan, 96, died April 1, 2009, at a Bangor health care center. She was born Sept. 27, 1912, in Bangor, the daughter of Lyman V. Blake and Edith C. (Lynott) Blake. Eleanor was a graduate of John Bapst High School, Eastern State Normal School and Beal Business College. She married John J. Nelligan, June 20, 1938, at a solemn high nuptial Mass officiated by Monsignor Thomas J. Nelligan, the Rev. Francis F. Nelligan, the Rev. William J. Nelligan and the Rev. John F. Nelligan. Eleanor was a devout member of St. John’s Catholic Church, a member of the women’s council, a charter member and past treasurer of the Pine Cone Council Auxiliary Knights of Columbus. She was a life member and past treasurer of Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She is survived by two daughters, Edith C. and Ruth A.; and a son, John J. Nelligan, all of Bangor; a sister, Mary B. Millett of Bangor; a nephew, James E. McCarthy and his wife, Carol, of Dallas; two nephews, Francis and his wife, Sandy, of Spruce Head, and Robert and his wife, Teresa, of Bangor; two great-nieces, Julie Glidden and her husband, Jon, of Millinocket, and Kimberly and her husband, Cliff, of Ellsworth; five great-nieces and great-nephews, Timothy and Maria Glidden, Arianna, Bailey and Dawson Peterson of Ellsworth. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a nephew, Timothy Millett and his wife, Gloria. The family expresses their most sincere appreciation for the outstanding, professional, loving and tender care shown to our mother during her stay in each unit of Ross Manor. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, April 6, at St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to a reception after the funeral in the church hall.
