DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — A Greenville man who vandalized a flower box, broke a wooden moose and broke into an ice cream stand in his hometown was sentenced Wednesday in Piscataquis County Superior Court.

Jordan N. Lyford, 19, pleaded guilty earlier this month to burglary and theft involving Harris Drug Store’s Dairy Bar, where he made an ice cream and took some french fries. He also pleaded guilty to criminal mischief involving damage to the wooden moose and a flower box.

A juvenile who allegedly joined Lyford in the crime spree and is accused of damaging other flower boxes and breaking into the dairy bar is being handled through the juvenile court system.

Justice William Anderson sentenced Lyford to nine months in jail with all but one day suspended on each count, to be served concurrently, and he placed him on probation for a year. Lyford also must make restitution and do 50 hours of public service.

For the sentencing, Anderson took into consideration that Lyford had a difficult upbringing, admitted his guilt, is attending school and is working several hours after school each week at a local co-op.
