Alfond Arena to hold ‘Skating the Blues’

ORONO, Maine — The audience will be all smiles when it’s time for “Skating the Blues” 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at Alfond Arena on the University of Maine campus.

Members of the Skating Club of Maine, Penobscot Region, are preparing eagerly for their annual figure skating ice show, which is a springtime hit every year.

Since October, skaters have been developing basic skills and working on advanced figure skating performances at Bangor’s Sawyer Arena.

“Skating the Blues” will showcase skaters of all levels and ages.

In addition to group numbers, there will be several solos and duets.

Solo skaters include area skaters Jade Baumrind, Reilly Bolin, Brooke Hammond, Elizabeth Houghton, Emma Howard, Dana Libhart, Tommy McCarthy, Sharon Silberman-Hummels and Casey White.

There also will be several duets, including a partnering duet by skaters Bridget Woodward and Mark Woodward.

Tickets are $5 at the door, and refreshments will be available.

Mark Woodward will be the master of ceremonies for the show.

The Penobscot Region of the Skating Club of Maine holds regular skating programs October through March at Sawyer Arena in Bangor.

The Penobscot Figure Skaters Club was founded in 1997. In 2005, PFS became affiliated with the Skating Club of Maine. It is now called the Skating Club of Maine, Penobscot Region.

The club is dedicated to promoting the sport of figure skating through teaching and training youth and adults of the Bangor area. SCM-PR is a nonprofit volunteer organization and is self-supporting from membership dues, ice fees, private donations and fundraisers.
