Lincolnville employee summoned for theft

By Walter Griffin

LINCOLNVILLE, Maine — A town office employee has resigned after being charged with stealing $240.

Kimberley A. Leonard, 38, of Searsmont was summoned for theft after an investigation by Police Chief Ron Young. Young said Leonard admitted taking the money from town accounts. Leonard, who had worked for the town for five years, resigned March 12.

Young said the discrepancy was discovered on March 2. He said that when he confronted her, Leonard told him she needed the money for groceries. He said the money was taken on Friday, Feb. 27, and that Leonard apparently planned to replace it the next Monday but she broke her foot over the weekend and never came to work that day.

“She had access to the money and she took some,” Young said Wednesday.
