BANGOR, Maine — A native of Honduras was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court to 155 days in jail or time served for being in the country illegally.

Juan Pablo Castillo-Paz, 50, of Milbridge waived indictment in December and pleaded guilty to re-entry after deportation and fraud in immigration documents.

Castillo-Paz came to the attention of immigration officials after a Maine state trooper stopped him in Bangor for an alleged traffic violation in October, according to court documents. Specifics about why Castillo-Paz was stopped were not included in the complaint filed in federal court in Bangor.

He had been deported in 1995, according to court documents, but returned to the United States illegally through Texas three years later.

Castillo-Paz also had an employment authorization card in another man’s name.

Court documents did not explain what the man was doing in Maine.
