FORT KENT, Maine — A Canadian man has won the 60-mile race in Maine’s 17th annual Can-Am Crown sled dog races, while a a Canadian woman has won the 30-mile race.

Sylvain Voyer of Quebec won the 60-mile contest on Saturday in 5 hours, 7 minutes and 24 seconds. Diane Marquis, also of Quebec, finished the 30-mile race in 2 hours, 15 minutes and 30 seconds.

In all, 78 mushers took off from Fort Kent on Saturday for the Can Am 30-, 60- and 250-mile races in front of thousands of spectators.

The winner of the 250-mile race — billed as the longest sled dog race in the eastern U.S. — isn’t expected back in Fort Kent until sometime Monday morning. The races have a total of $40,000 in prize money.
