5 homeless after fire in Dixfield

The Associated Press

DIXFIELD, Maine — A fire along Route 2 in the western Maine town of Dixfield has driven a family of five from its home.

Firefighters at the scene Sunday morning said everyone got out safely from the David Swett home, where flames burned through the roof from one end of the building to the other.

The burning home was across from the East Dixfield fire station, but water had to be hauled in by fire trucks from Dixfield, Jay and Wilton.

A state fire investigator was called to the scene.
