TRESCOTT, Maine — The Cobscook Community Learning Center has a variety of classes coming up over the next couple of months.
Lew Richards will offer a class in making Plains Indian beadwork pouches from 9 to 11 a.m. on four Saturdays, March 14 to April 4. Participants will learn about traditional beadwork designs and techniques of tribes such as the Arapaho, Cheyenne and Sioux and will design their own beadwork project. The fee for the class is zero to $80 with a $20 materials fee.
Susan Reilly will offer Getting Started Writing Your Memoir from 9:30 to noon Saturday, Feb. 28. The session is designed to get people started in the task of writing personal memoirs. The course fee for this class is zero to $25.
Skilled knitters Beth Roy and Laurie Baird will guide beginning knitters or anyone who wants to increase their skills through the process of creating warm, wearable items from yarn in two courses intended for people ages 14 and up. Beginning Knitting will be offered 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 21. Participants will learn ba-sic stitches and techniques, and will make a functional, basic item, a dishcloth. The course fee for the class is zero to $30 with an $8 materials fee.
Knitting Mittens will be offered 9 a.m. to noon on two Saturdays, March 7 and 14, for beginning and more advanced knitters who want to learn to make basic, beautiful mittens. The course fee is zero to $60 with a $10 materials fee.
The learning center also will offer knitting for children and bread baking in the early spring.
Pricing for all courses is based on the learning center’s sliding scale, which is explained in greater detail at www.thecclc.org.
