BUCKSPORT – Darrell “Crazy Luke” Howard Sr., 73, died peacefully Jan. 19, 2009, at a Bangor nursing home, with his number one daughter at his side. He was born June 21, 1935, in Penobscot, the son of Walter M. and Phyllis O. (Robertson) Howard. Darrell worked construction in Maine for many years, and was a member of the local Union No. 321. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening. Darrell was a member of Masonic Lodge and Anah Temple Shrine, and in his early years, a member of NRA and SAM. He is survived by his three children, Darrell R. Howard Jr. and Stephanie Howard, both of Bucksport, and Robin Howard of Bangor; four grandchildren, Tanner and Sable Leach, Sonja Howard, and Darrell Howard III; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Delia and Anders; two brothers, Stuart Howard of Bucksport and Kevin Howard of Verona Island; four sisters, Charlene Rocheleau of Leominster, Mass., Doris Dion of Monticello, Michele Burgess of Bucksport and Amanda Howard of Oakland, N.J.; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Darrell was predeceased by his wife, Carol (Hickey) Howard; his parents; stepfather, Urban Coombs; and three brothers, Steven, Theron and Bruce. A graveside service will take place in the spring at Silver Lake Cemetery, Bucksport.
