CASTINE, Maine — Winning streaks have dominated the basketball rivalry between Husson University and Maine Maritime Academy.
One of those streaks was extended Saturday, while the other was snapped.
The Husson women halted an eight-game losing skid against the Mariners, earning a 76-64 North Atlantic Conference victory Saturday at Smith Gymnasium.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Eagles men cruised to a 72-36 victory, pushing their winning streak over MMA to 10 consecutive contests.
In the women’s game, junior forward Ashley Bragdon of Newport registered 15 points and 10 rebounds to spark Husson (6-6, 2-0 NAC) to victory.
Bree Hanscom posted 12 points for the Eagles, while Shelby Bradford contributed 11 points and 14 rebounds and Laura Archer added 11 points and six boards.
Tatum Welch paced MMA with 11 points and eight rebounds. Samantha Goda provided 10 points and eight rebounds.
In the men’s game, Jay Uhrin of Winterport came off the bench to score 14 points in Husson’s rout of the Mariners.
Matt MacKenzie netted 12 points with five rebounds and Brock Bradford added 12 points for the Eagles (5-8, 2-0 NAC).
MMA (5-8, 1-1 NAC) was led by Derek DiFrederico’s 11-point effort.
