PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A single-vehicle accident sent a Presque Isle man to the hospital early Friday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Laura Kelly of the Presque Isle Police Department, Joshua Martin, 19, was heading east toward Main Street on Washburn Road when he attempted to pass a vehicle.

Martin, who was alone in the vehicle, lost control of the 2003 Ford pickup registered to Langille Construction of Washburn, on the shoulder of the icy right lane.

Kelly said the truck crossed the oncoming lane and rolled over.

Martin was able to leave the truck on his own, Kelly said, and although he complained of back pain he was walking around unassisted by the time Crown Ambulance arrived to take him to The Aroostook Medical Center. He was treated and then released.

Kelly said it appeared Martin attempted to pass the vehicle on the right hand side as the road was bare and dry at the time of the accident and the only ice was on the right-hand shoulder.

Though Martin reported the car in front of him braked suddenly, forcing him to attempt to pass, Kelly said there was no evidence of the other vehicle at the scene.

The truck had $4,000 to $5,000 in damage. Martin was not summoned in connection with the accident.
