LINCOLN, Maine — An unidentified woman was killed instantly when she was struck by a passing logging truck Monday as she walked along Route 2 near a cement contractor’s office, police said.

The woman was walking southbound along the southbound side of the road when the truck apparently hit her at about 1:40 p.m. in front of G.E. Goding & Sons, 841 West Broadway, Police Chief William Flagg said. Her body was not removed from under the truck for another two hours.

The identity of the woman and of the driver of the truck, which was owned by Carver Trucking Inc. of Patten, were being withheld Monday afternoon until next of kin were notified and the investigation progressed further.

Route 2, which is also known as West Broadway, was closed and then open to just one lane of traffic in both directions for more than two hours.

A state police accident reconstruction team and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department were assisting Lincoln police with the investigation.
