ELLSWORTH – Winifred R. “Winnie” Willey, 89, died March 28, 2007, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born May 22, 1917, in Franklin, the daughter of Irving and Rosalinda (Tracy) Rollins. Winnie was married 52 years to the late Richard Willey. She became Ellsworth’s first female deputy sheriff in 1951. She was a volunteer at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital for many years. Winnie was a member of the Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church. Winnie loved her family and never missed a family gathering. She touched many lives and will be warmly remembered by all who knew her. Winnie is survived by a son, Richard Willey Jr. and wife, Jane, of Georgia; daughters, Karen Bunker and husband, Walter, of Ellsworth, Joan West and husband, Gerald, of Virginia; sister, Elaine Smith of Ellsworth; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Alice Rollins; brother, William Rollins; granddaughter, Karen Rhodes. Calling hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at United Methodist Church, 21 Hancock St., Ellsworth. Contributions may be made in Winnie’s memory to Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource, P.O.
