Watch this Maine veteran embrace the stranger who saved his life after transplant surgery

Waterville man Rick Pomelow embraces kidney donor Mark Obert after transplant surgery last month. Pomelow and his family put a desperate plea for a donation on Facebook after he abruptly learned his kidneys were failing in 2016. Obert, a stranger living in Colorado, answered and was determined to be a perfect match. Although they later learned they’d attended the same Maine high school — Madison Area Memorial High School — he two men met for the first time just 10 days before the surgery. This video was provided by the nonprofit Help Hope Live, which collects donations to help with medical costs, like those Pomelow is facing post-surgery.
