Death of worker prompts Dexter man’s effort to make road work safer

Joel Costonis, a Dexter man who has about 15 years of experience in the paving industry is trying to get state lawmakers to create what he calls "Ricky's Mandate," named after Richard Thibodeau, a paving company employee who died on May 7 after he was struck by a Jeep while paving a church parking lot in Orono. He wants the state to set up a system of permits and inspections that would ensure all companies follow safety standards.
