Archaeologists excavate 18th century home connected to Ellsworth’s founder

A team of archaeology students from all over the country, let by Professor Ben Carter of Muhlenberg College, are in Surry painstakingly digging up a home that once belonged to Nathaniel Joy, son of Benjamin Joy, who helped found Ellsworth in 1763. At the site, they are gaining critical insight into what life in Down East Maine was like in the late 18th century.
