Stephen and Tabitha King were at the Cross Insurance Center polls in Bangor early Tuesday morning to support a $3 million bond for the replacement of Bangor Public Library's roof. The library hopes to undergo a $9 million renovation project. The Kings pledged $3 million toward that effort, but only if the bond passes and the library raises another $3 million on its own. The bond measure will pass regardless of the results if fewer than 10 percent of registered voters turn out for the election — that's about 2,200 people, which would be unprecedented in an off-year, June election, according to City Clerk Lisa Goodwin. Bangor City Councilor Joe Baldacci said he spoke with the Kings at the polls and thanked them for their $3 million contribution. The Kings then took a tour of Bangor's new arena, he said. "This is why Bangor is Hometown USA," Baldacci said.
